Nymphoides Aquatica, better known as the Banana Plant, is an aquatic plant that is native to Southeast areas of the United States. Its name is straightforward and self-explanatory in that the aquatic plant harbors thick, nutrient-storing roots that resemble bananas! With an already unusual appearance and the name to match, the Banana Plant is increasing in popularity within the planted tank hobby and is a perfect aquatic plant choice for those who are looking for a statement aquatic plant. Along with its interesting roots, Banana Plant also features rounded foliage that ranges in coloration dependent upon its growing environment. Some other names include Banana Lily and Big Floating Heart.

Nymphoides Aquatica aka Banana Plant is typically a hardy aquatic plant and will do fine in low-light aquarium tanks without much care. However, in order to grow heart-shaped lilies on the surface of the aquarium tank, quality aquarium LED lighting should be provided in addition with CO2 injection. If given optimal conditions, trimming will be required to ensure other aquatic plants in an aquarium tank will not be shaded from the lighting source. Nymphoides Aquatica can be grown submerged or emerged and is fairly temperature tolerant as well. Care should be taken not to bury the entire root system when planting, but quality aquarium soil should be used whenever possible.

"This banana lily is small and only has 1 leaf but its very healthy with lots of new growth starting and the tubers look great. This was a replacement for one that broke during shipping, so I appreciate that the seller selected a smaller plant that was less likely to be damaged. You can see the broken one in my reference photo as well. Both pieces are also very healthy looking despite that it was damaged. Im still not sure if either of the 2 pieces will recover but they aren't dying. I just discovered this shop on etsy and I love it. Beautiful, healthy plants, great prices, fast shipping and top notch customer service. They sell everything from tanks and accessories, to substrate, hardscapes, plants and even some live critters. Outstanding Quality - Strong enough to withstand shrimp landscaping tendencies!

"This is my first time adding a banana plant to one of my tanks. As you could imagine, I was mortified to see that my shrimp had chosen to remove the leaves from a brand new, tiny plant! Cute and easy!

"First of all, all of my plants from Glass Aqua always come fast and in pristine condition. The banana plant I received was definitely much smaller than the photo with 5 roots and only one leaf but it has already grown another leaf in about 2 weeks! It's definitely a bit hard to get to stay put, it wants to float away so i would also recommend tying or gluing it to a small rock that you can then very lightly cover in substrate. In any case, it's just really fun to look at and show people and since its thriving already I would say easy to care for!"
