OVERVIEW

Our latest aquascape, Green Haven, features classic nature aquarium style. A combination of aquarium driftwood and aquascaping stones were used to create the base foundation in our Ultum Nature Systems 45U aquarium tank. With the main star of the layout being aquarium driftwood, large, exaggerated pieces were stylized to create a visual illusion between centered and triangular aquascape layouts. The aquarium driftwood was then covered with aquatic moss to contribute to an instant feel of maturity while epiphytic aquatic plants (in our case, a mix of bucephalandra) were placed within the gaps of the hardscape. When choosing foregrounds, we typically review the current aquarium tanks we have running and mold our decisions accordingly.

As the space already has a full-fledged aquarium tank with a carpeting aquatic plant (flora green), fine natural sand was used accordingly to complement the scape and overall room. Nature aquarium style generally calls for the use of aquatic stem plants. A total of 5 different Rotala species were chosen to produce a myriad of colors in the background and paired with Bolbitis Heudelotii to tie it in. When choosing aquatic plants, factors such as size, leaf shape and color are kept in mind to ensure they all blend well together and fit the aquarium tank size appropriately. The remaining low-light to high-light aquatic plants were chosen to fit in the mid ground and foreground of the aquarium tank. Nature style does not necessarily recreate specific environments in nature, but draws inspiration from them. These style is one of our personal favorites due to the level of creativity required and flexibility available to creators.
