OVERVIEW

Our recommended planted aquarium size typically falls within the 15 to 20 gallon range. It is small enough to be manageable and forgiving with routine maintenance, yet large enough to make a strong visual impact in any space. This footprint also feels familiar and inviting, even to those new to the hobby.

To fully maximize the space in this 17 gallon planted aquarium, we used the full depth and height to create a much larger visual presence. By layering smaller pieces of Malaysian Driftwood in the foreground and transitioning to larger pieces in the background, the sense of scale and perspective expands, giving the layout a spacious and natural flow.

We also selected specific pieces of wood that would natually join together to form concave crescents from front to back. This creates a sweeping layout that guides the eye from left to right. Finding pieces that fit together this naturally took over a year, a practice we do often to achieve the most authentic results.
