OVERVIEW

Our first-ever 20 gallon long aquarium tank! This planted aquarium tank features a river stream Iwagumi style aquascape layout. A variety of Hakkai Stones were chosen and arranged strategically to create a simple and classic nature aquarium design. We typically choose aquarium plants based on the purpose of the tank and sculpt our decisions around the reason we're creating it.

In this case, various wispy bladed aquatic plants were chosen with intention to fill specific areas of the aquarium and to complement the rounded shape and smooth texture of Hakkai Stone. Additional accent stones were wrapped with moss to grow in over time and provide a sense of maturity within the aquarium while the strategically placed grass-like aquarium plants are being left to slowly intertwine and mingle over time with the intention of creating a soft look and calming experience.

OVERVIEW

Large pieces of Malaysian driftwood were carefully selected and positioned to create a dynamic aquascape layout. Several aquarium plant species were added in nearly every nook and crevice to create a natural, chaotic look. Pellia and Fissidens were sprinkled onto the driftwood and given time to carpet the driftwood. Inspired by fallen trees in the forest, the intention was to create a slice of undisturbed nature in this 68 gallon aquarium. Several different livestock species from bottom dwelling sand sifters, mid-level swimmers and free agents were added for life and character.

OVERVIEW

The planning of this large tank took 8 months due to the fact that finding matching stones that look proportional in a larger planted aquarium is quite a daunting task. An estimated 250+ pounds of rock were used to create the overall layout along with 3 bags of 9L Tropica Aquarium Soil. In order to maintain the high valley slopes longterm, large, flatter pieces of Ryuoh Stone were placed at the base to ensure that it would not collapse over time. A total of 17 cups of Micranthemum ‘Monte Carlo' tissue culture were planted densely to allow for quicker aquatic plant filling of this tank. Half inch portions of Micranthemum ‘Monte Carlo' were patiently divided and planted in half inch increments. Due to the high-tech nature of this tank, we were able to grow a full and complete carpet of Micranthemum ‘Monte Carlo' within a months time. This layout is intended to be maintained longterm. We imagine the possibility of additional plants in the future as this layout allows for the addition of stem plants and midground plants. However, we currently enjoy the simplistic nature of this planted aquarium tank.
