OVERVIEW

We love creating Iwagumi aquascapes that showcase the natural texture and movement of Seiryu Stone. In this planted aquarium layout, two large stones with matching striations and sharp contours establish the foundation of a classic Iwagumi hardscape. Their long lines and shadowed crevices add depth and contrast, forming a strong focal point in the aquascape. After positioning the main stones, we shaped a higher substrate slope to enhance perspective, then added small and medium Seiryu Stones to complete a clean triangular composition.

This Iwagumi differs from traditional planted aquarium setups through its expanded plant selection. Instead of the standard one to three species, we introduced four aquatic plants to create layered color and texture. A vibrant reddish-orange midground plant adds movement and visual flow, guiding the eye toward the center background. There, a deeper red Rotala provides a dramatic highlight that resembles a sunset along the horizon—bringing balance, contrast, and a refined finish to this modern Iwagumi aquascape.
