Add an cute pop of greenery to your planted aquarium with Banana Plant (Nymphoides aquatica). Named for the cluster of thick, banana-shaped tubers at its base, this aquatic plant develops rounded green foliage that creates an instantly recognizable look in freshwater planted aquariums and ponds.

Banana Plant can stay relatively compact with leaves growing closer to its base or send longer stems toward the water's surface, where it can develop floating, lily-like foliage. Its unique growth habit makes it an easy statement plant for planted aquariums, especially when given some open space to show off its unusual shape. When planting, keep the banana-shaped tubers partially exposed rather than completely burying them beneath the substrate.

About Our Live Aquatic Plants

Aquarium plants can vary in growth form and may require time to transition to your aquarium environment, whether grown submerged or emersed. This transition period is a natural part of establishing healthy, long-term growth in planted aquariums.

From carpeting plants in the foreground to stem plants and larger species used in the midground or background, each plant offers a unique contribution to a balanced and natural aquascape. As plants adapt, it is normal to see minor changes such as leaf melt, color shifts, or new growth patterns as they settle into their new conditions.

We carefully inspect and prepare all live aquatic plants prior to shipping. While we do our best to minimize hitchhikers, we cannot guarantee plants to be completely pest or snail-free unless tissue culture options are selected.

Because live plants are perishable, some signs of transit stress may occur, including leaf loss or cosmetic damage. These are typically temporary and when when healthy roots are present, most plants will recover with proper care.

About Our Tissue Culture Plants

Tissue culture aquarium plants are grown in sterile, laboratory conditions, ensuring they are free from pests, algae, and snails. These young plants are cultivated in nutrient-rich gel and are grown in emersed form before being introduced into the aquarium.

Tissue culture plants are best for aquascapers looking for clean, controlled plant material, especially for shrimp tanks or sensitive setups. Before planting, the gel media should be gently removed, and the plant can be divided into smaller portions for planting.

With proper care, tissue culture plants transition quickly and establish into healthy submerged growth.

Fantastic!

"This banana lily is small and only has 1 leaf but its very healthy with lots of new growth starting and the tubers look great. This was a replacement for one that broke during shipping, so I appreciate that the seller selected a smaller plant that was less likely to be damaged. You can see the broken one in my reference photo as well. Both pieces are also very healthy looking despite that it was damaged. Im still not sure if either of the 2 pieces will recover but they aren't dying. I just discovered this shop on etsy and I love it. Beautiful, healthy plants, great prices, fast shipping and top notch customer service. They sell everything from tanks and accessories, to substrate, hardscapes, plants and even some live critters. I cant wait to order more stuff, lol."

Outstanding Quality - Strong enough to withstand shrimp landscaping tendencies!

"This is my first time adding a banana plant to one of my tanks. As you could imagine, I was mortified to see that my shrimp had chosen to remove the leaves from a brand new, tiny plant! At the time of writing, it has already grown two gorgeous leaves to replace the one my shrimps had a strange distaste for. I cannot wait to see how this plant looks as it matures!"

Cute and easy!

"First of all, all of my plants from Glass Aqua always come fast and in pristine condition. The banana plant I received was definitely much smaller than the photo with 5 roots and only one leaf but it has already grown another leaf in about 2 weeks! It's definitely a bit hard to get to stay put, it wants to float away so i would also recommend tying or gluing it to a small rock that you can then very lightly cover in substrate. In any case, it's just really fun to look at and show people and since its thriving already I would say easy to care for!"

"Some plants in the order came with half or more leaves snapped; but they all arrived alive and otherwise healthy!"

Small but hardy

"This was my first time trying the Banana plant, initially I was a little surprised by how tiny it was, but it’s already putting down some roots and has several new leaves. It’s growing way faster than I anticipated and it’s so cute! Looking forward to watching it grow"
