Black River Slate is a type of hardscape that isn't too commonly seen in the planted aquarium hobby. These flat stones are perfect for stacking cave structures or creating paths in the planted aquarium. Color tones are dark grey, almost black when submerged and provide lovely contrast against vividly colored aquarium plants. These stones are also easy to break apart for multi-use purposes and very ideal for wrapping your favorite aquatic mosses around them such as Riccia, Mini Pellia, Fissidens Fontanus, Christmas Moss and more. Alternatively, Black River Slate can also be used as a base hardscape for scapes that utilize intricate driftwood work.

"I was happy with my purchase. I wish I had bought more. The pieces of slate were all really big and I wish I had some extra slabs to break apart for more variability. The edges were all smooth so it’s great for tanks with long finned fish. My only complaint really is that some of the pieces were very clearly cut from a larger slab and had awkward corners. It was easy enough to hide by turning them towards the back of the tank, but it did make me a little more limited in how I placed them."
