Ultum Nature Systems Controsand is a natural substrate for the planted aquarium. Available in various granule sizes and colors, each type produces a different result that is perfect for creating a variety of looks in the planted aquarium tank. Controsand is a natural product and won't alter water parameters, making it safe for all planted tank and freshwater aquarium applications. Rinsing is recommended before use to remove finer grains and ensure a crystal clear start.

Each style of UNS Controsand is available in 3L and 8L bags. We recommend the 3L bag for nano aquariums and tanks up to the Ultum Nature Systems 45U rimless aquarium. The 8L bag is suitable for use in larger tanks such as the Ultum Nature Systems 60U rimless aquarium.

UNS Controsand Monterey
APPROXIMATE GRAIN SIZE: 3-5MM

Monterey Controsand is a chunkier gravel that features a mix of neutral tones. Monterey can be used alone or paired with a fine natural sand to create a customized substrate blend. It is also ideal for adding extra detail in the foreground area or in aquariums where a larger granule is necessary.

UNS Controsand Santa Fe

Santa Fe is a gravel inspired by natural riverbeds and streams. Featuring a less common color palette, Santa Fe Controsand's rich mix of cool grey and earthy tones provides a unique look that is well-suited for accent use or biotope aquariums.

UNS Controsand Kona

Kona Controsand is a rounded pebble gravel designed for freshwater aquarium use. Kona’s deeper tones can be used as a supporting feature or to create excellent contrast. Like other Controsands, Kona can be used alone or mixed with other substrates for a custom look in planted tanks, terrariums, paludariums and more.

Vesuvius is a larger gravel made from Black lava Rock. This popular type of material is commonly used in aquascaping and is loved for its porosity and ability to support beneficial bacteria colonization. A solid choice alone or in combination with another type of UNS Controsand.
