Floating Aquatic Plant Care & Information
Salvinia Cucullata is an interesting floating fern that features cup-like soft green leaves. Like others, this one is easy to grow and has minimal care requirements. When compared to other commonly known floating aquatic plants, Salvinia Cucullata's root system is quite small and doesn't reach down far, reducing chances of tangled aquatic stem plants.
When happy, Salvinia Cucullata is a prolific grower and will easily cover large surface areas in planted aquariums if not periodically harvested. To prevent shading other aquatic plants, make sure to regularly prune and monitor its growth! Salvinia Cucullata and other aquarium floaters provide planted aquariums and ponds another source of natural water filtration and will absorb available nutrients! For tanks with heavy bioloads, this helps keep the environment clean and safe for fauna. If nutrients are inadequate, try a liquid plant fertilizer. Floaters are also great for providing a valuable refuge for smaller aquatic life and can help skittish fish feel safer, sometimes minimizing jumping risks.

Aquarium plants can vary in growth form and may require time to transition to your aquarium environment, whether grown submerged or emersed. This transition period is a natural part of establishing healthy, long-term growth in planted aquariums.
From carpeting plants in the foreground to stem plants and larger species used in the midground or background, each plant offers a unique contribution to a balanced and natural aquascape. As plants adapt, it is normal to see minor changes such as leaf melt, color shifts, or new growth patterns as they settle into their new conditions.
We carefully inspect and prepare all live aquatic plants prior to shipping. While we do our best to minimize hitchhikers, we cannot guarantee plants to be completely pest or snail-free unless tissue culture options are selected.
Because live plants are perishable, some signs of transit stress may occur, including leaf loss or cosmetic damage. These are typically temporary and when when healthy roots are present, most plants will recover with proper care.
