READ ME: Our aquarium plants vary in growth forms and will require time to transition to submerged or emersed conditions. We do our best to clean and inspect all plants prior to shipping but do not guarantee them to be snail free unless tissue culture is purchased.

Tissue culture plants are cultivated in sterile lab settings ensuring your plant is free from pests, snails and algae! These are young specimen that are grown in emersed forms. Gel should always be removed prior to planting.

Live plants are susceptible to stress and damage from transit. - This may appear in the form of minimal melt, leaf loss, cosmetic damage, etc. Refunds or replacements will not be issued for plants with viable root systems or that die out of our care.

Mini Taiwan Moss (Taxiphyllum alternans) is a rarer and beautiful aquarium moss with a delicate texture and soft green color. Similar to Weeping Moss, it features horizontal, overhanging growth and adds natural texture and visual interest to any planted aquarium.

Its compact size is perfectly scaled for all tank sizes, especially nano aquariums and smaller aquascapes. Like other mosses, care is relatively simple. It adapts well to low-tech tank settings and can grow nicely in shaded areas of higher-light aquascapes.

Use aquatic moss to cover unnatural gaps in a planted tank layout or attach it to hardscape materials. Incorporating moss adds character, softens hard edges, and gives instant maturity to freshly planted tanks.

Provide Mini Taiwan Moss with clean, stable water parameters and gentle flow as a baseline. CO2 injection will help it grow fuller and form the dense, fluffy tufts seen in popular aquascapes. Propagation is easy—simply separate a portion and reattach or reposition as desired. If you’re trimming moss, we recommend turning off the filter first to prevent unwanted spread and easier clean up!

Lost in the Moss: A Beginner's Guide to Aquarium Moss

With so many species of aquarium moss in the hobby, it can be overwhelming (in a good way) to pick which one works perfectly for your planted tank. You’d think it’s just moss, but each type provides a different look and overall effect when added to an aquascape! So, we’ll be covering six different types of aquatic mosses that are all popular and worthy of being added to your aquarium. We’ll start with Java Moss and work our way through Christmas Moss, Mini Christmas Moss, Spikey Moss, Peacock Moss, and Weeping Moss. For starters, the photo below depicts a single frond of each, in that order.

Aquarium moss is a staple for a reason! It can be attached to driftwood, rocks, or used to cover gaps in an existing hardscape layout. Common methods for attaching include using cotton thread (we like this one) or aquarium-safe glue. Moss is pretty indestructible, and basic care guidelines include keeping temperatures comfy (below 74°F) and keeping your water clean. That’s the bare minimum. If you want to do more, treat it the same as regular aquatic plants, and you’ll soon find its growth exploding!
