Aglaonema Simplex, sometimes known as the Malayan Sword, is a tropical aroid that is extremely adaptable and easy to care for. It tolerates general household conditions, and unlike many common houseplants, Aglaonema Simplex is a hidden gem for paludariums, ripariums, terrariums, and emersed aquarium growth where its roots can remain consistently moist while its foliage grows above the waterline. Its deep green color is beautiful and its slow growth habit makes it an excellent choice for adding structure, size and height to planted displays.

Like other rhizome plants, the rhizome should remain exposed and not be completely buried, as this may cause the plant to rot. Over time, established plants can be divided by separating sections of the rhizome to create new plants. Care requirements are comparable to other popular aroids such as Anubias, Bucephalandra, and many Philodendron species.

Because live plants are perishable, some signs of transit stress may occur, including leaf loss or cosmetic damage. These are typically temporary and when when healthy roots are present, most plants will recover with proper care.

Tissue culture aquarium plants are grown in sterile, laboratory conditions, ensuring they are free from pests, algae, and snails. These young plants are cultivated in nutrient-rich gel and are grown in emersed form before being introduced into the aquarium.

Tissue culture plants are best for aquascapers looking for clean, controlled plant material, especially for shrimp tanks or sensitive setups. Before planting, the gel media should be gently removed, and the plant can be divided into smaller portions for planting.
