Fallen Umber is a paludarium aquascape in the Ultum Nature Systems Foresta 60E Integrated Paludarium. This layout features a large statement piece of Malaysian Driftwood we’ve held onto for years. Its hollow, tree trunk-like form—filled with natural crevices and openings—provided the perfect foundation to blur the line between land and water.

Mist from the included UNS Atomizer drifts through the interior of the wood, adding subtle movement while highlighting its rich textures. A variety of aquatic plants were selected with the intention of adapting to emersed growth over time, gradually transitioning above the waterline as the tank matured.

Hydrocotyle species ranging from small to large were used generously throughout the layout, eventually growing in and softening the hardscape with lush, trailing foliage. As the scape continues to develop, we expect moss and plant growth to slowly overtake the structure—bringing the hollow trunk back to life.
