Sprout is a nano Iwagumi aquascape in the Ultum Nature Systems 45L rimless aquarium. Each piece of Ancient Stone was strategically placed to create a simple layout with a gently rolling hillside that adds depth and perspective within its compact 3.4-gallon footprint.

Rather than flooding the aquarium immediately, Sprout is being grown using the Dry Start Method (DSM). Tissue culture Hemianthus callitrichoides ‘Cuba’ (HC) and Utricularia graminifolia (UG) were planted densely from the start, allowing both carpeting plants to establish healthy root systems before filling the aquarium.

As the carpet matures, the stonework will gradually soften. Sprout highlights one of our favorite phases of aquascaping—the opportunity to watch a planted aquarium develop from exposed hardscape into a lush, established Iwagumi.
