Wild Grass is a nature-style planted aquarium in the Ultum Nature Systems 45T Tall rimless aquarium. Inspired by our original Green Haven aquascape, this layout reuses some of the original Malaysian Driftwood while adapting the composition to take advantage of the taller proportions of the 45T.

Rather than creating a new layout from scratch, we embraced the additional height, preserving the familiar feel of the original while reimagining it with a different aquarium footprint and plant selection. The result demonstrates how the same hardscape materials can create an entirely different experience through composition and planting.

Planting was intentionally centered around slower-growing, low-light aquatic plants. A mixture of grassy species and several Cryptocoryne varieties was chosen to create a lush, layered appearance with lower maintenance requirements. Different leaf shapes, textures, and shades of green provide plenty of visual interest without the higher demands of stem plants or constant trimming.

Although these plants are often considered beginner-friendly, Wild Grass is still operated as a high-tech planted aquarium with strong lighting, consistent CO2 injection, and a complete liquid fertilizer routine. We believe every aquatic plant benefits from ideal growing conditions. Healthier growth, fuller foliage, and richer color aren’t exclusive to demanding species!

Wild Grass is a reminder that low-light, easy-to-grow plants don’t have to result in a boring planted aquarium. Thoughtful hardscape, patient care, and a balanced system can produce a mature, vibrant aquascape that continues to improve with time.
