Carnivorous
Carnivorous is our perspective on a simple desktop planted tank in the Ultum Nature Systems 5S Shallow Rimless Aquarium. Using the concept of the Dry Start Method (DSM), we created a bog-like environment with the UNS Atomizer to grow a variety of carnivorous plants and aquatic moss.
One of the most popular carnivorous plants in the aquarium hobby is Utricularia graminifolia. Known for being tricky in traditional planted tanks, it's surprisingly easy to grow with this method. We paired this classic with a few Drosera species to add extra texture and character to the setup. Over time, we were able to observe how carnivorous plants grow, capture, and feed on tiny insects in real time! Care requirements were very minimal. We maintained moisture levels and treated it more like a small potted house plant rather than a traditional aquarium. The result was a unique, living desktop tank that was interactive, low-maintenance, and rewarding to grow.
