Vermillion Rush is an Iwagumi aquascape in the Ultum Nature Systems 45U rimless aquarium. We’ve always enjoyed creating Iwagumi layouts that highlight the natural texture and shapes of Seiryu Stone. In this aquascape, two large stones with matching striations and sharp contours establish the foundation of the hardscape. Their long lines and shadowed crevices add depth and contrast, forming a strong focal point within the layout. After positioning the main stones, we shaped a higher substrate slope to deepen perspective, then added smaller Seiryu Stones to complete a classic triangular composition.

This Iwagumi differs slightly from more traditional setups through its expanded aquarium plant roster. Instead of the typical one to three species, we introduced a few different species aquatic plants to boost color and layer texture. More vibrant reddish-orange midground plants add movement and visual flow, guiding the eye toward the center background. There, a deeper red Rotala provides a highlight, resembling a sunset along the horizon—bringing balance, contrast, and a finishing touch to this modern Iwagumi aquascape.
