Senju Grove is a nature-style nano planted aquarium and successor to Konoha Springs. After allowing its predecessor to grow into a dense, naturally intertwined aquascape, we took the same aquarium in the opposite direction—trading abundant plant growth for taller hardscape, negative space, and a minimalist plant roster.

A few larger pieces of driftwood were positioned upright and supported by smaller Hakkai Stones, resembling tree trunks rising from the forest floor. Rather than filling every available space, the exposed hardscape and open water are intentional parts of the composition.

Planting is concentrated around the center and base of the hardscape, with a simple mix of Eleocharis and Helanthium. Gaps throughout the hardscape were filled with classic Anubias and, more recently, a small addition of small-leaf Bucephalandra for variation in texture and color. As the aquarium matures, we may add delicate mosses sparingly while keeping the overall color palette primarily green.

From Konoha Springs to Senju Grove, the same nano aquarium showcases two very different styles—neither better, just different. This rescape demonstrates the versatility of a single aquarium and how plant selection, negative space, and hardscape orientation can change an aquascape within the same footprint.
